COVID-19 Interview

BreakThrough Research on Management of COVID-19

Dear Members of our Working Group,

Humanity is experiencing a disastrous pandemic by the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (disease Covid-19). This disease has direct implications on human life conditions but also foreseeable consequences in our society. Since the beginning of Spring 2020, all members of the Hellenic Sepsis Study Group (HSSG) are united into a huge effort to understand the tropism of the disease and to quickly develop ways of management. This effort has delivered huge deliverables with global perspective:

Three publications on the top journals Cell and Cell Host & Microbe on the pathogenesis of COVID-19 and on immunomodulatory management.

One publication on the association of hydrogen sulfide with disease pathogenesis.

The launch of three clinical studies following approval by the National Ethics Committee and the National Organization for Medicines where all study sites of the Hellenic Sepsis Study Group participate. These studies are known with the acronyms ACHIEVE, ESCAPE and SAVE and aim to the appropriate administration of biomarker-guided immuno-therapy.

The start of a vaccination program for COVID-19 using the BCG vaccine.

In this historic period we need to understand that research is the ONLY solution to retrieve quick answers and to reverse the ominous consequences of COVID-19 for people and for the society.
